Mt Hood Cabin

Our clients had a wonderful cabin that had become a special place for their family to get away and spend time together. But as their family grew, so did the need for space! The cabin was now too small to comfortably accommodate the children and grandchildren, and they didn't want to give up a place that meant so much to their family. So they decided to stay in the family cabin and make it bigger!

We added 2 full bedrooms with closets, a full bathroom, mudroom, separate entrance, wood storage and loft storage. The goal wasn't just to add rooms, but to make the new space feel like it had always belonged with the original cabin.

There were several challenges to work through—weather constraints, property setbacks, a stream running through the backyard and the restrictions that came with it. We also needed to match the feeling of the original cabin exterior without having the exact logs available, and figure out what to do with the old exterior wall that would now become part of the interior.

There were a lot of factors that needed to be thoughtfully laid out and accurately executed, especially with winter and snow approaching. But the end result gave this family something pretty special: more room to gather, more room for the kids and grandkids, and a way to keep enjoying the family cabin they already loved.
